CAPE TOWN: Cape Town is a port city on South Africa’s southwest coast, on a peninsula beneath the imposing Table Mountain. Affectionately known as The Mother City, it was established in 1652 as refueling station for ships bound for the East (the Spice Route), and became the first city in South Africa. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful metropolises in the world. Nestled against the iconic Table Mountain and surrounded by beautiful beaches and the Atlantic Ocean, Cape Town offers visitors a host of outdoor adventures and leisure activities. With a number of luxury hotels around the peninsula, it also makes for the perfect base from which to embark on tours of southern South Africa – either inland or along the south and west coasts.
ONE&ONLY CAPE TOWN: The One&Only Cape Town is a chic waterfront resort offering an unprecedented level of luxury. Set in the heart of the picturesque V&A Waterfront, it has captivating views of Table Mountain and the harbor. This contemporary resort features a range of luxury accommodation, a comprehensive spa, and the continent’s only restaurant by legendary chef Nobuyuki Matshuhisa. It is a destination unto itself.
TIMBAVATI GAME RESERVE: The Timbavati Game Reserve is located to the north of the Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve on the western edge of Kruger National Park. Wildlife, including lions, elephants, cheetahs and other species roam freely between these reserves. The reserve forms part of the Greater Kruger Park and lies nestled between the Kruger National Park on the east, the Klaserie and Umbabat Game Reserves in the north and the Thornybush Game Reserve in the west. There are no fences between the Timbavati and the Kruger National Park which allows free movement of wildlife between the reserves. The world-famous Kruger National Park is a conservation area of more than 7,7000 sq mi.
MAKANYI LODGE: Makanyi Lodge is situated in Timbavati, a private reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park, which is an area of over 2.4 million hectares where animals roam freely. Makanyi is one of very few commercial lodges in this area and promises guests a truly unique and intimate experience. The seven luxury suites overlook the magnificent dam. They have extra large beds, sitting areas with fireplaces, beautiful bathrooms with spacious indoor and outdoor showers and separate bathtubs and private decks with loungers. Two of the luxury rooms are pool suites, making this the perfect spot for a romantic getaway. The exquisite rooms are located furthest from the main lodge, offering more privacy. They have romantic four-poster beds, private plunge pools and private decks.
MADIKWE GAME RESERVE: Madikwe is a malaria-free Big Five game reserve covering some 290 square miles. Situated along the Botswana-South Africa border, it is one of South Africa’s prime safari destinations. It consists mainly of wood and grasslands, with the Dwarsberg Mountains forming the southern border and a 65-mile electrified perimeter fence protecting the rest. In addition to extensive game-viewing opportunities, guests also benefit from the park’s relatively unknown status at present, meaning greater privacy and the possibility of more intimate encounters with the local wildlife.
JAMALA MADIKWE: Successfully combining colonial style with African eclecticism, Jamala MAdikwe Royal Safari Lodge is an owner-managed and run lodge that gets it right on every level. Set within 7500 hectares of malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, in South Africa’s northwest province bordering Botswana, the gracious thatched main lodge overlooks a busy watering hole where on any given day you can see elephant, giraffe, eland, zebra and wild dogs. Venture out by game vehicle and you will see sighting of lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, giraffe and even the rare African wild dog. Not to mention 300 resident and migratory species of birds. Comprising just five freestanding villas, each with their own private rim-flow pools set within a sala and wooden deck, every lusury necessary in the bush in available to you, we particularly love the new open-air Jamala bar on the front deck.
