Esteban Gutiérrez was born on August 5th, 1991, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, México. His passion for motorsports started when he was very young and by the influence of his brother Andrés and with support from his parents Roberto and Clara Gutiérrez, who, in 2004, induced him into karting in México. In 2007 he participated in his first season on a single seater in the Formula BMW United States Series where he finished runner-up. A year later, his talent took him to the Formula BMW Europe Series where he reached the title with 12 podium finishes, including seven wins.
In 2009, Esteban went to race in the Formula 3 Euroseries. In 2010, he was part of the GP3 series where he achieved a few podium finishes and the season championship.Esteban arrived at the GP2 Series in 2011 and stayed there for two seasons. In his first season, he finished 13th in the standings. The following year, he won 3 times and finished runner-up in the season. In 2011, Sauber F1 Team named him their reserve driver but he has actually being doing testing for the team since 2009 by participating in testing sessions for rookies. In 2013, he became a Formula One driver of Sauber F1 Team and teams up with German driver Adrian Sutil in 2014 for his second F1 season.
The Sauber F1 Team and Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation recently announced a partnership including plans for events, joint merchandise and media campaigns. In addition, the Foundation’s angel logo will be seen on the inside of the rear wing endplates of the Sauber C33-Ferrari.
