A genuine Hermès Birkin 30 is one of fashion's most coveted objects, reimagined as a singular work of fine art by Korean American artist Mike Han.
This 1-of-1 piece, titled MONOCHROME: BIRKIN, transforms a black Togo leather Birkin 30 with palladium hardware into a one-of-a-kind artwork that serves the purpose of advancing breast cancer research through the Dynami Foundation.
Hand-painted with metallic silver paint manufactured in Detroit, this bag was one of three works of art exhibited during Han's solo exhibition MONOCHROME, held during Detroit Month of Design. The bag represented the highest end of the value spectrum presented in the show, with objects designed to be lived with that have taken on new meaning and purpose through Han's artwork.

About the Artist: Mike Han is a Korean American artist with studios in Santa Monica and Detroit, whose work is held in the collections of the Board Chair of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, and Huntington Bank. He has been commissioned by Bloomingdale's for their 150th Anniversary window display and by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to live-paint at Pitti Uomo in Florence, Italy. At the intersection of luxury fashion and contemporary fine art, MONOCHROME: BIRKIN is a truly unrepeatable object part collectible handbag, part museum-worthy canvas that exists nowhere else in the world.
About the Cause
The Dynami Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to changing the future of invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC), the second most common subtype of breast cancer and one that remains significantly underfunded and understudied.
Founded by breast cancer survivor Flora Migyanka, Dynami has grown from a grassroots effort in Detroit into a national force for ILC research and advocacy. The Foundation funds innovative research, brings together leading scientists and institutions, supports patients and families, and builds strategic collaborations designed to accelerate progress in the understanding, detection and treatment of ILC.
To date, Dynami has raised more than $3 million and funded more than 20 ILC research projects, investing in work that can move the field forward.
Most recently, Dynami provided the seed funding to launch the Lobular American Research Consortium (LARC), a multi-institutional, investigator-led research collaboration bringing together leading ILC researchers and institutions to accelerate discoveries and advance the understanding and treatment of lobular breast cancer.
Every dollar raised through the MONOCHROME: BIRKIN auction will support Dynami Foundation's work to advance ILC research and help create better answers and better outcomes for patients living with this disease
