$1,000 increase sends 10 girls to university for a year
Bid now on Marilyn Monroe Poolside in Los Angeles in 1949. An extra-large collector's fine art print produced directly from the original negative by legendary Hollywood photographer Frank Worth offered as a limited edition of just 48 prints.
Captured in 1949, this image offers a rare and intimate glimpse of Marilyn Monroe before the world truly knew her name. At 23, she had already fulfilled contracts with 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures, yet her defining breakthrough roles were still ahead. What sets this photograph apart from the polished publicity portraits of her mid-1950s peak is precisely its candor a poolside session in a swimsuit and heels, a direct smile, natural surroundings, and none of the studio artifice that would later define her image. It feels less like a production and more like a moment.
Frank Worth's access to Monroe was unlike that of almost any other photographer of the era. Born in New York City in 1923, Worth built his career through the International News Service before earning membership in the Hollywood Photographers Guild and the trust of some of Silver Screen history's biggest names James Dean, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jayne Mansfield, and Jerry Lewis. He is perhaps best known for his iconic image of Monroe standing over a New York City subway vent, white dress billowing. Worth retained extensive personal archives of Monroe photographs, many never publicly seen, and just before his death revealed a private affair with Monroe lending his body of work an intimacy that goes far beyond professional access.
Printed in Silver Gelatin from the original negative, this 40" × 30" print is a striking statement piece one of only 48 in existence. The Certificate of Authenticity is included
