$1,000 increase sends 10 girls to university for a year
Bid now on this rare pair of Photographer's Proofs capturing Betty Page's exotic belly dancing, 2 striking images from one of the most iconic and sought-after pin-up series of the 1950s, printed on premium Hahnemühle Matte and dating to approximately 1954-1955.
Bettie Page is widely regarded as the Queen of Pin-Ups, a cultural icon whose jet-black hair, signature bangs, and magnetic on-camera presence made her one of the most recognizable figures of mid-century American popular culture. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Page rose to national fame through her work with photographer Irving Klaw, her January 1955 Playboy Playmate appearance, and a string of celebrated burlesque films including Varietease (1954) and Teaserama (1955). These photographs originate from that same prolific period, when Klaw directed Page through a series of exotic belly-dancer and costume shoots that remain among the most distinctive images of her career.
Irving Klaw (1910-1966) was a New York-based photographer, filmmaker, and pin-up publisher who, alongside his sister Paula, operated the legendary Movie Star News in Manhattan. His collaborations with Bettie Page between roughly 1952 and 1957 produced some of the most enduring imagery in American pin-up history.
Both Photographer's Proofs in this lot come with a Certificate of Authenticity, making them a compelling acquisition for serious collectors of vintage photography, Americana, or mid-century pop culture memorabilia. Photographer's Proofs are among the most exclusive print editions produced, limited by nature and rarely available outside of dedicated collectors' circles.
