Randall Stephenson, Former Executive Chairman of AT&T Inc., is an accomplished businessman and recognized as a world leader in the telecommunications industry with 39 years’ experience at AT&T.
Randall began his career with Southwestern Bell Telephone (which would later become AT&T) in 1982 in Oklahoma. He served as the company’s senior executive vice president and chief financial officer from 2001 to 2004, and from 2004 to 2007 he was chief operating officer. He was appointed to AT&T’s board of directors in 2005. In 2007 Randall was appointed to Chairman and CEO, a position he held for 13 years. Randall Stephenson became Executive Chairman of AT&T’s Board of Directors on July 1, 2020, a position he served through January 2021.
As Chairman and CEO, Randall led AT&T’s transformation aligned with two major trends: First, that consumers will continue to spend more time viewing premium content where they want, when they want and how they want. And second, that businesses and consumers alike will continue to demand more connectivity, bandwidth, mobility and software-based entertainment.
Randall led AT&T’s $550 million signature philanthropic initiative, AT&T Aspire, which drives innovation in education to promote student success in school and the workplace. He also led AT&T’s breakthrough “It Can Wait” campaign – an education and awareness program to reduce distracted driving. The program has amassed more than 40 million pledges of support.
Under his guidance, AT&T strengthened its leadership in diversity and inclusion, including being named #1 on DiversityInc’s 2019 ranking of U.S. companies’ success in diversity, and the 2018 launch of WarnerMedia’s industry-first Diversity and Inclusion Policy for talent in front of and behind the camera. In 2021, Randall was inducted into the Texas Business Hall of Fame.
