Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department square off against officers from the Los Angeles Police Department in the 25th annual Fight for Life benefiting City of Hope. The fundraising boxing event was started by Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputies in 1994 to help raise funds for a boy they met while on patrol who was battling cancer. The deputies were so touched by this boy’s bravery that they befriended him and provided help to improve the quality of life for him and his family.
And now, in memory of this boy, and to help others like him battling life-threatening illnesses, the deputies continue that commitment to improve the lives of patients and their families by supporting the work of City of Hope. For the past 25 years, they have partnered with the Los Angeles Police Department in a friendly, competitive boxing event between the two agencies.
The LASD and LAPD have also joined forces together to compete against the likes of the Los Angeles County and City Firefighters, NYPD, FDNY, and Scotland Yard. Thanks to the longtime support of the LASD and LAPD, this event has raised more than $1.4 million to support City of Hope.
At each Fight For Life, whether the competitors win or lose, they are all in agreement that the true winners are the individuals that benefit from the research and treatment at City of Hope.
