Add this fantastic piece of Wizard of Oz memorabilia to your collection— The Wizard of Oz film still photograph, with Limited Edition hand-written, signed & numbered lyrics from one of the production's most memorable songs!
Jerry Maren, the actor who played the most prominent of Munchkins in MGM's classic 1939 extravaganza The Wizard of Oz, is pictured in the Technicolor photographic image in the top portion of this large-format collector’s item, as the green-garbed Lollipop Kid who, representing the Lollipop Guild, presents Dorothy (Judy Garland) with a lollipop. He had a singing role in the film, singing The Lollipop Song.
Below the film still of Dorothy and the Lollipop Kids are lyrics to The Lollipop Song, hand-written in large, flourished script by Jerry Maren, which he has also signed. He has written:
The Lollipop Song
I represent the lollipop guild, the lollipop guild, and in the name of the lollipop guild, I wish to welcome you to Munchkin Land.
Jerry Maren
Lollipop Kid
Maren created only 200 copies of these lyrics, each individually hand-written and unique. Written on marbled parchment paper, the lyrics bear the edition number “74/200”. The framed display comes with the original Certificate of Authenticity created for the Limited Edition of Jerry Maren's hand-written and signed lyrics.
Additionally, the signed lyrics were examined and determined to be authentic by James Spence Authentication (JSA), and the piece bears a unique alphanumeric authenticating label from JSA, which corresponds to the matching second Certificate of Authenticity which accompanies the item.
Finally, completing the display, is a special “FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD” plaque, which provides additional information and recognition for the historic The Wizard of Oz production.
Framed within a gold gallery-style frame, measuring 21-3/8" in height x 17-3/8" width, with custom double-layer matting in cheerful green and bright yellow, this great collectible commemorates one of the best-loved, and most-watched, film in cinematic history.
Among Jerry Maren’s countless film, TV and commercial credits following The Wizard of Oz, are the Marx Brothers film At The Circus (1939); Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973); American International Pictures' release Little Cigars (1973); Little Oscar for the Oscar Mayer Company; Buster Brown in television and radio commercials; McDonald's commercials; a recurring position on The Gong Show in the late 1970s; The Odd Couple; and a recurring character in the ABC sitcom No Soap, Radio. Maren also had a walk-on role in an episode of Seinfeld ("The Yada Yada”), and played a mime in the 2010-released comedy horror movie Dahmer Vs. Gacy; and starred in the Eric Swelstad-directed horror movie Frankenstein Rising (2009). In 2009, Maren performed in Project Lodestar Sagas as Thaddeus, opposite former MGM child actress Margaret O'Brien in the lead role of Livia Wells.
Filmed in Technicolor, The Wizard of Oz was an adaptation of L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's fantasy novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The film was primarily directed by Victor Fleming (who left the production to take over the troubled Gone with the Wind), and was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, winning in two categories: Best Original Song for "Over the Rainbow" and Best Original Score by Stothart.
The Wizard of Oz was selected by the U.S. Library of Congress as one of the first 25 films for preservation in the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". It is also one of the few films on UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. It was among the top ten in the 2005 British Film Institute’s list of "50 films to be seen by the age of 14", and is on the BFI's updated list of "50 films to be seen by the age of 15" released in May 2020.
