Bid now to own Whitney Houston’s historic South Africa post apartheid stage worn costume, a purple three piece pant suit ensemble.
This year, 2024, marks the 30th Anniversary of Whitney Houston’s three post apartheid concerts following Nelson Mandela’s historic election win as the then president of the new South Africa. Whitney was the first major recording artist to perform in the newly unified, post apartheid nation.
With more than 200, 000 people in attendance at the three concerts, she performed at Kings Park Stadium in Durban (November 8, 1994), Ellis Park Stadium also known as Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg (November 12, 1994), which was filmed for the HBO Special, and the final performance was held at Green Point Stadium in Cape Town (November 19, 1994). Everything about the three concerts were unique and magnificent from the special sets to the custom made designs by South African fashion designer Marc Bouwer who has lovingly recreated this stage costumes as exclusive reproductions for tonight’s gala.
Purple Three Piece Pant Suit Ensemble
Whitney also wore her famous velvet turtleneck long sleeved top in her signature color, purple with her initials on her left chest embroidered with silver thread. She wore matching purple tights. This combo was made for her in many other colors over the years and can be seen in multiple television and concert appearances and videos. The last part of the three piece ensemble was the purple tailored men’s jacket emblazoned with hundreds of Swarovski crystals in a triangular pattern all over the entire jacket. She wore it open, so you could see the hint to the “WH” initials embroidered above her heart. For South Africa, she wore this outfit while singing including “All The Man That I Need,” “So Emotional,” “Home,” “Queen of the Night,” and “Amazing Grace,” among others.
