Production is slated for early 2027 in New York and Kentucky. Brooke Berman is an award-winning playwright, filmmaker, and memoirist.
Her directorial debut feature RAMONA AT MIDLIFE premiered at Geena Davis' esteemed Bentonville Film Festival and is currently streaming in the US and Canada. Brooke's plays have been produced and developed at theaters including Steppenwolf, Soho Rep, Williamstown Theater Festival, Naked Angels, MCC, Primary Stages, The Humana Festival, and The Bay Area Playwrights Foundation. Internationally, her work has been developed at The Royal Court Theatre, The National Theatre Studio and Pentabus and produced at Red Stitch Theatre in Australia.
Most recently she developed A MODEL CITY with Leigh Silverman for Stacey Mindich Productions and DEARLY BELOVED at Theaterworks, Hartford. Brooke has written films for Natalie Portman, The Mark Gordon Company, Vox Films, Fugitive Films and Red Crown. She adapted and directed the short U4G, which premiered at the Aspen International ShortsFest, where it won Audience Special Recognition. ALL SAINTS DAY, a short film Brooke wrote, directed by Will Frears, won numerous awards and played at festivals including SCAD and Tribeca. Brookes feature POLLY FREED was chosen to be part of New York Stage and Films Screenwriters Lab and selected as part of the MOME (Mayors Office of NYC) inaugural finance lab for female filmmakers.
POLLY FREED won Best Screenplay at the Toronto Independent Film Festival in 2020 and made it to the second round for Sundance two years in a row. Brooke's memoir, NO PLACE LIKE HOME (Random House), is available on Audible. After writing extensively about couch-surfing and barely-legal sublets, Brooke now owns a coop in Queens, where she lives with her writer husband and teenage son. She is the author of the Substack RAMONA AT MIDLIFE, centering midlife creatives and independent film, and is currently in pre-production for her feature MAJOR MINOR DETAILS.
