Virtually pitch your movie or TV show to Steven Jackson, Head of Production at Spike Lee's 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks.
Hailing from the East Coast and with a passion for storytelling, Steven Jackson majored in multimedia journalism at Morgan State University’s School of Global Journalism and Communication in Baltimore, but it wasn't until a post graduate opportunity with Viacom (now PARAMOUNT) that brought him from New York to Los Angeles towards a career in the entertainment business.
While pursuing his master's degree at the University of Southern California, Jackson was an assistant to a variety of Paramount Television executives, including the President, and would later go on to work for the Head of Television at Chernin Entertainment. In 2016, he became a Creative Executive at Gunpowder & Sky, founded by Viacom veteran Van Toffler, before returning to Paramount Pictures in 2018 as a Creative Executive with the Motion Picture Group.
There he worked on films such as Rocketman, Without Remorse, Coming 2 America, and the critically-acclaimed, box-office smash Top Gun: Maverick. While at Paramount, Jackson pitched the idea of making the theatrical experience more engaging with interactive storytelling. This unique confluence of technology and storytelling ultimately led to Jackson being tapped by Netflix to help build out their slate of interactive content and branching narrative titles.
As Manager of Original Series and Interactive Experiences, he worked directly with creators of stories like Black Mirror Bandersnatch, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and You vs. Wild while also overseeing a traditional slate of half-hour series including Cobra Kai, Dear White People, The Upshaws, and The Vince Staples Show. More recently, Steven joined forces with acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee as the Head of Development and Production at 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks where he currently oversees a diverse slate of film and television projects.
40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks is the production company of Spike Lee, founded in 1979. The company has produced all of Lee's films, starting in 1986 with She's Gotta Have It. Projects have gone on to include Do the Right Thing (1989), Malcolm X (1992), Blackkkansman (2018), and Da 5 Bloods (2020).
