Stax Records in Memphis was one of the eminent record companies during the 1960s and 1970s, best known for bringing some of the world’s most famous soul music to listeners everywhere. Now here’s your opportunity to revisit soul music’s lasting legacy firsthand with a personalized tour at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music in Memphis led by Deannie Parker.
Deanie Parker is a former Stax Records recording artist and executive employee who worked with legendary artists including Booker T. & the MG’s, Eddie Floyd, Isaac Hayes, Albert King, Richard Pryor, Otis Redding, the Staple Singers, Johnnie Taylor, Rufus and Carla Thomas, and many others. Deanie was also the first President/CEO of the Soulsville Foundation, the nonprofit organization that operates the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, Stax Music Academy and also The Soulsville Charter School.
The winner of this experience is entitled to invite up to three (3) additional guests to tour the museum Tuesday – Sunday except on major holidays. Please check their website (staxmuseum.org) for specific hours of operation.
Favorite events to consider when choosing best times to visit the Stax Museum include the month of February to experience the Stax Music Academy’s Annual Black History Presentation, the Academy’s Summer Music Experience Finale in late June and also the Napa Café sponsored event presented annually in November. The Stax Museum of American Soul Music, which opened in 2003, currently welcomes approximately 60,000 visitors annually. The Museum (17,000 square feet) is filled with artifacts, video interviews and performances and interactive exhibits.
