Description of piece:
“Echoes of New York” is a captivating fine art photography collection by Viet Chu, revealing the quiet beauty hidden within the city’s rush. Capturing stillness during a time of uncertainty, many images were taken at the height of the pandemic, offering a lens into resilience, hope and the extraordinary in everyday moments. Each photograph invites viewers to experience the subtle echoes of life in New York City. The Story Behind the Soho Yellow Cab Image The yellow taxi is more than just a vehicle in New York, it’s a symbol of the city’s relentless energy, a constant presence weaving through the streets, carrying the daily lives and stories of its people. During the height of the pandemic in late March, I captured this image in SoHo, a neighborhood usually bustling with life. But that day, the streets were eerily quiet, stripped of their usual chaos. Out of the stillness, a single yellow cab appeared—cutting through the emptiness like a reminder that the city’s heart was still beating, even in its darkest hours. The cab’s small, solitary presence against the vast, silent streets reflected the scale of what New Yorkers were facing: the fear of the unknown, the weight of isolation, and the uncertainty of what lay ahead. Yet, that lone cab also embodied something deeper, resilience. It represented the quiet determination of everyday people, navigating a new reality, adapting, and enduring. Because that’s what New Yorkers do. We move forward. We push through. And just like that cab, we keep going, toward whatever comes next. That fleeting moment was more than a photograph; it was a symbol of hope and grit, framed by an empty city that was down, but never out. – Viet Chu A signed background of the artist’s history Certificate of Authenticity accompanies the print.
