Artist bio:
The artist and environmental activist Justin Brice Guariglia exemplifies the growing desire of artists to address climate change with their voice and through their mediums. Guariglia, who in 2015 was the first artist to fly on a NASA mission, will continue his earth science exploration with NASA/JPL's Oceans Melting Greenland Mission through 2020.
Working closely with scientists, philosophers, and journalists, while mixing photography, painting, print making, and sculpture, Guariglia turns his documentation of our changing planet into works of art that powerfully and affectively communicate some of the great challenges we face on our changing planet. His traveling solo exhibition entitled Earth Works: Mapping the Anthropocene, which recently debuted at the Norton Museum of Art, will re-open this Fall at the Fisher Museum of Art at USC, in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History. Guariglia will also be a featured artist in the upcoming Storm King Arts Center exhibition entitled “Indicators: Artists on Climate Change”.
