Moneighs® are original, abstract paintings created by Thoroughbred racehorses, using the horse's muzzle, whiskers, hoof, and/or tail. They are exclusive to ReRun and have been sold since 2001 to help raise money for the organization.
This Moneigh® was created by “Zenyatta”, the sensational mare who won the 2010 Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year and Champion Older Female. Zenyatta painted her Moneigh® in her owner’s racing colors, teal and pink and black, and left her hoof print autograph in black. The painting is autographed by Zenyatta’s trainer John Sherriffs, her exercise rider Steve Willard and her jockey Mike Smith. The signatures are located in the bottom center and bottom right hand corner of the painting.
This framed painting measures 16” x 20”, is double matted with white over teal and is finished off with a gold nameplate that says Original “Moneigh”® by Zenyatta on the bottom. The painting comes with a photo of Zenyatta creating her painting and is embossed with ReRun's official trademark seal to verify their authenticity.
Now officially retired at 6 years old and living at Lanes End Farm in Kentucky, Zenyatta went nearly undefeated in her career, winning 19 races in 20 starts. Her only defeat was her last race, the 2010 Breeder’s Cup Classic, getting beat by a nose by Blame. Her total career earnings are one of the most accomplished in racing history, $7,304,580. Along with the 2009 Breeder’s Cup Classic and the 2008 Breeder’s Cup Distaff, Zenyatta was the winner of 16 other stake races.
Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, owners of A&M Records, the name Zenyatta came from the album by the Police, Zenyatta Mondatta. She was trained by Jon Sherriff’s throughout her career and ridden early on by jockey David Flores and then by Mike Smith. Her running style was always last to first, creating an exciting finish every time.
