Merrilee Heifetz represents authors of books for adults and children, including several #1 New York Times bestsellers and recipients of major awards and honors. She has worked with many of her clients from the start, including author Neil Gaiman whose career has grown to include writing for TV and film, producing and showrunning TV series based on his novels, and other related projects, all of which she now manages. She represented MacArthur Grant recipient Octavia E. Butler for 18 years until she died, and since 2006, has been the Literary Executor of the Butler Estate, for which she licenses film and TV rights, stage rights, and advises on scholarships and charities benefitting writers of color. On the Children’s side, she represents Alexandra Bracken, whose latest YA book Lore debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and remained on the list for several months. Her Children’s Book authors have won, among them, three Newbery Medals and she would love to find more quality storytellers of diverse backgrounds. Right now she is looking for own-voices stories about underrepresented characters for adults and children whose work resonates with readers and tells a moving story in unexpected ways.
A graduate of Sarah Lawrence, she is now Senior Vice-President of Writers House, where her college Career Counseling Office sent her on an interview for an Assistant position a long time ago.
