Willie Mosconi has hand-signed and inscribed this vintage Caeser’s Palace casino photograph, with an additional Mosconi signature on a Lucky #13 billiard ball.
Willie Mosconi, world-renowned pool player, is essentially synonymous with the game of pool. From 1941 to 1957, he won the World Straight Pool Championship an unmatched fifteen times– and he was among the first Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame inductees. Mosconi pioneered and regularly employed numerous trick shots, and still holds the straight pool high run world record of 526 consecutive balls.
As the technical advisor on the 1961 film The Hustler, starring Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason, George C. Scott and Piper Laurie, Mosconi taught Newman how to walk, talk, and shoot like a real pool hustler. Newman had never even picked up a pool cue before filming, but his inexperience was undetectable due to Mosconi's expert instruction. According to Mosconi, Gleason already knew his way around a billiard table and Mosconi recommended Gleason for the role of the famed "Minnesota Fats", whom Mosconi had played against and beat in 1978.
This classic photo shows Willie Mosconi setting up a shot on a high-stakes blackjack table at Caeser’s Palace casino. He has personalized the photo, and hand-signed “Best regards / From / Willie Mosconi”. The photograph comes framed and ready for display in a substantial gold frame, measuring 13-3/4" in height x 11-3/4" width, which is structured for either wall or tabletop display.
The accompanying #13 billiard ball has also been hand-signed by Mosconi. The signatures on both items have been individually authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA), and the pair comes with two certificates of authenticity from JSA.
