See Anastasia on Broadway, then go backstage and meet star of stage and screen, Mary Beth Peil!

Anastasia is the most nominated Broadway show of 2017! From the Tony Award-winning creators of the Broadway classic Ragtime, and inspired by the beloved films, Anastasia is the new Broadway musical that’s “one of the most gorgeous shows in years!” (New York Observer).

This dazzling show transports us from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love, and family.

Anastasia features a book by celebrated playwright Terrence McNally, a lush, new score by Stephen Flaherty (music) and Lynn Ahrens (lyrics), and direction by Tony Award winner Darko Tresnjak. As The Wall Street Journal raves, “Fantastical, intelligent, well-crafted, exhilarating and full of surprises, it deserves a coronation. Anastasia is the real thing.”

Mary Beth Peil created the role of Nan Bemis in the WPA Theater production of The Naked Eye (then called The Naked Truth). Her Broadway credits include Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna in Anastasia, Anna in The King and I (Tony Award nomination); off-Broadway she appeared as Addie in Missing Persons (1995 Obie Award), Kate in Sylvia, Edmee in Finding the Sun, Marjorie in Birds of Paradise, Cymbeline at the Joseph Papp Public Theater and Desire in A Little Night Music with New York Opera Theatre. Her extensive resident theater credits include Gertrude in Hamlet at the Huntington Theatre, A Month in the Country at Arena Stage, Floyd Collins and States of Independence at the  American Music Theatre Festival, Assassins at San Jose Civic Opera, Sweeney Todd at Paper Mill Playhouse, and Anthony and Cleopatra and Tales of the Vienna Woods at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. Ms. Peil has performed in national and international tours of The King and I and The Sound of Music. Film and television credits include Reckless, Comfortably Numb, "Law and Order" and "Summer and Smoke" (PBS's Great Performances). She has also sung with the Metropolitan Opera National Company, the New York City Opera, Young Concert Artists, and the New York Philharmonic.
