Artist bio:
BUST: MEGAN BARRY "I ran into Sarah Baer one night while doing voter outreach, and we began talking. It had been a particularly tough day, one of my dear friends had just learned that she had breast cancer. My friend and I spoke earlier that week about a lump she had discovered while in the shower. I immediately tried to remember: When did I last check myself? When was my last mammogram? Could this happen to me? Breast cancer doesn’t run in my family - so surely it’s not a big deal to skip those shower checks and just rely on the mammogram - but then I started thinking when was my last one of those? When my friend went to the doctor, her worst fears were realized, and she started the painful process of removing the lump and losing her breast. When Sarah told me about Keep A Breast and asked me to “get casted,” I was blown away. How could I say no? How can any of us say no? I had to do it in honor of my friend. I just had my mammogram (it had been a lot longer than I thought since my last one - and now, I’m checking myself regularly.). I love my arms, my legs, my breasts, my body! It’s not perfect, but I want to hang on to these bad-ass boobs forever! Thank you, Sarah, for connecting me to Shaney Jo and for all the work KAB does."
ARTIST: HERB WILLIAMS "Just finished this bust cast for The Keep A Breast Foundation. They are a non-profit organization with a mission to empower young people around the world with breast health education and support. The bust is for a charity auction fundraiser to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Many thanks to local hero castee Megan Barry and castor Shaney jo Darden. It's so very important that we all do that we can to support the women in our lives and keep healthy habits. From the first caveman carving the Venus de Milo in marble, the healthy breast has nourished and inspired humanity. I am very honored to be included in this exhibit that carries on that tradition."
