This is an original art piece, handmade by the artist for the USTA’s Black Lives To The Front Original Art Exhibit at the 2020 US Open. This piece was displayed in the front row seats of Arthur Ashe Stadium at the 2020 US Open.
“The portrait painting for The US Open 2020 promotes equality for the cultural movement of diversity and inclusion. The portrait raises awareness of bringing people together in a world that has its eye towards the current climate surrounding race relations globally, while addressing love, elevating issues and embracing change. This is a powerful portrait of a young girl wearing a durag. Watching a tennis match shows how the love for a sport takes away from dealing with everyday challenges and inequality. She’s finding peace of mind watching a match elevating her mental capacity, captivated by the strategic moves, which gives her the tools to be used in her everyday life.”….Souls NYC
The USTA Foundation Incorporated is donating 50% of the net proceeds from the auctioning of this item to New York Junior Tennis & Learning, in honor of the artist.
