You and a guest will have a chance to spend two nights in a King Suite at the historic Degas House, with Creole breakfasts included, as well as two exclusive private historic tours and an unforgettable cocktail reception in NOLA’s Garden District.
The Degas House, circa 1854, is the only home and studio of the French Impressionist Master Edgar Degas in the world. The French Ministry of Culture inducted the Degas House into the network of the Maisons des Illustres (Houses of the Illustrious) on July 15, 2019, making it one of only two French landmark houses in the United States. Degas lived there in 1872 and 1873 during a visit to his maternal family the Mussons. The Musson family were French Creole from New Orleans as was Degas’ mother, Celestine. During his four and a half month stay, Degas created 18 paintings, 4 drawings and 5 letters. According to his letters Degas created "better art" during this period. He committed to returning to Paris following his stay to resume the "Paris plan", which evolved into the French Impressionist Movement of 1874 and beyond. Today, the Degas House operates as an award-winning bed and breakfast home which hosts many weddings and other cultural events. The Degas House Creole Impressionist tour is led by one of two of the great grandnieces of Edgar Degas, who have acted as tour guides and docents of the property for the last seventeen years. Other awards include eight consecutive years of the "Best of Weddings" awarded by TheKnot.com for the many weddings and receptions that the Degas House has hosted in its twenty-four year history since it opened to the public in 1996.
