Add this Limited Edition numbered baseball collector's item to your collection! On May 7, 2003 the New York Yankees faced off against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field in Seattle. The Yankees beat the Mariners 7 to 2. Hideku Matsui, Japanese baseball outfielder and designated hitter played for the Yankees, while Ichiro Suzuki, Japanese baseball right fielder, played for the Mariners.
This handsomely custom matted collector's commemorative piece displays a piece of a game-used base from the May 7, 2003 game. It features a color photo of Matsui & Suzuki together on the field in their respective Yankees & Mariners uniforms, along with 3 additional plaques.
The piece of game-used base is authenticated by Major League Baseball Authentication (MLB), and bears an MLB authenticating hologram. In the center, below the piece of game-used base, is a plaque that includes the limited edition number, 150/250.
To the left, an inscription memorializing Hideki Matsui's career, which reads: "Hideki Matsui #55 'Godzilla' Three-time MVP of the Central League (1996, 2000, 2002) and three-time home run and RBI Champ (1998, 2000, 2002). Chosen as the No. 1 Draft Pick in 1992 by the Yomiuru Giants and led them to four Japan Series, winning three (1994, 2000, 2002)."
On the right, the inscription: "Ichiro Suzuki #51 'Ichiro' First Japanese position player to sign with a Major League club. Led the Pacific League in batting average for a Japanese-record seven consecutive seasons. Appeared in two Japanese series with Orix, including winning title in 1996."
Hideki Matsui played 7 seasons, from 2003–2009, for the New York Yankees, and was World Series MVP. On July 28, 2013, Matsui signed a one-day minor league contract with the New York Yankees in order to officially retire as a Yankee. A pregame ceremony was held for him.
Ichiro Suzuki has established a number of batting records, including MLB's single-season record for hits with 262. He had 10 consecutive 200-hit seasons, the longest streak by any player in history. Between his career hits in Japan's and America's major leagues, Ichiro stands at second place all-time in top-flight hits, trailing only Pete Rose. Ichiro led the American League (AL) in batting average and stolen bases en route to being named AL Rookie of the Year and AL Most Valuable Player (MVP). Ichiro won a Gold Glove Award in each of his first ten years in the major leagues, and has had seven hitting streaks of 20 or more games, with a high of 27. Ichiro also leads all active players in stolen bases, with 498.
