Have you ever asked yourself how digital characters are created? Have you watched Avengers in awe at how closely Thanos resembles the actor who portrays him? This is your opportunity to learn from the ground-breaking team at Digital Domain just how they achieve these incredible feats of both technology and artistry!
Start the day with a meet and greet at Digital Domain's Los Angeles-based motion capture stage. Shake hands with Global President and Chief Operating Officer, Lala Gavgavian. Then be transported into the digital world with a presentation about how they use digital human technology to create digital characters for film. Winners may also have the opportunity to meet with Visual Effects Supervisors Hanzhi Tang, Kelly Port, and Matthew Butler.
Finally, the team will suit you up in a motion capture suit. Under the watchful eye of the team, you will be able to walk, run, jump, and dance and you will be transformed into a digital character. The team will then produce a video of you as the digital character. As a memento of your experience, a copy of the video will be mailed to you upon completion of any required post production.

Hanzhi Tang, a Visual Effects Supervisor, has played a pivotal role in the studio's success over his 20 years with Digital Domain. Previously a Digital Effects Supervisor and Head of Lighting, Tang has contributed his expertise to over two dozen feature films. His outstanding work in the movie "2012" earned him a Visual Effects Society Award nomination, and he recently received a 2021 HPA Award for Outstanding Visual Effects - Theatrical Feature, specifically for Marvel's Black Widow.
Kelly Port, a distinguished Senior Visual Effects Supervisor at Digital Domain, boasts a career spanning over 30 films. His pioneering work on "Avengers: Infinity War" earned him his first Oscar nomination in the Best Visual Effects category. Port played a crucial role in bringing the fully digital villain character, Thanos, to life with over 50 minutes of screen time. His contributions to "Spider-Man: No Way Home" resulted in his second Academy nomination and a VES nomination for his outstanding work.
Matthew Butler, a distinguished Senior Visual Effects Supervisor at Digital Domain, has contributed to 21 full-length feature films. Butler served as the production-side visual effects supervisor on Sony Pictures Entertainment film “Morbius” directed by Daniel Espinosa and in 2014 was tapped by Director Steven Spielberg to create the the gritty reality of 2045 Ohio in the film “Ready Player One,” for which he received OSCAR, BAFTA and VES nominations. Matthew has worked on some of the most iconic films of our age with esteemed filmmakers like James Cameron on “Titanic,” Ron Howard on “Apollo 13” and David Fincher on “Fight Club.”
