Greg Muirhead is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana, who discovered golf and learned the game as an avid junior golfer at Crooked Stick GC. Certain that he wanted to pursue a career in golf architecture and after meeting famed architect Pete Dye to discuss the profession, Greg enrolled in the College of Architecture & Planning at Ball State University and graduated with both a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and a B.S. in Environmental Design degrees. While attending Ball State, Greg completed two internships assisting with the construction of the Pete Dye designed, Austin CC in Austin, Texas. After graduation, Greg assisted with the construction of a Dye course in Denver, Colorado. In late 1984, Pete and Alice Dye helped Greg secure his current position with Rees Jones, Inc. Since joining Rees Jones, Inc. in 1984, Greg has been involved in the design or renovation of numerous golf courses throughout North and South America, as well as Asia. Greg was the co-designer of three courses named “Best New” by Golf Digest magazine. In addition, Greg co-designed three courses prepared to host five U.S. Open Championships: Congressional CC, Blue Course – 1997; Bethpage Black GC – 2002 & 2009; Torrey Pines South Course – 2008 & 2021; one PGA Championship, Bethpage Black – 2019; one Ryder Cup, Bethpage Black – 2025; and one Walker Cup, Ocean Forest GC – 2001. In addition, Greg’s co-designs have hosted over 75 PGA and LPGA Tour events.
Greg became a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) in 1987 and served as the organization’s President in 2006. Greg also completed three 3-year terms on the ASGCA Board of Governors, was Membership Chairman and Co-Chaired the group’s Strategic Planning Committee. Greg served five years on the ASGCA Foundation Board and was President in 2017. In addition to being an accomplished golfer, Greg is a strong contributor to the golf industry. He has been both the author and subject of several articles regarding golf course planning and design. Greg has also spoken at various industry gatherings and has served as a presenter and seminar instructor at numerous golf industry shows in the USA and China.
