Sam Bissonnette is a Los Angeles-based writer specializing in animation, comedy, and family entertainment with credits from DreamWorks, Nick Jr., and Warner Brothers Animation. Sam started her journey to screenwriting with a career in child development and education. As a preschool teacher in Greater Boston, Massachusetts, Sam gained hands-on experience by teaching television's youngest audience- and more importantly, learning what makes them laugh.
Once her time as a teacher ended, Sam dove into production, working as a production assistant at Soup2Nuts Studios on WordGirl for PBS KIDS and Astroblast! for Sprout before moving to Washington D.C. to manage the PBS KIDS Video app at PBS headquarters. Eager to broaden her understanding of informal education, Sam attended the Harvard Graduate School of Education to earn her master's in the Technology, Innovation, and Education program. With an interdisciplinary graduate curriculum, Sam focused on courses in inclusive education, animation, and design. After graduating, Sam became a producer at FableVision Studios, where she led teams of artists and developers to build games, websites, and animated shorts for nonprofit and for-profit clients until she moved west to pursue her dream of writing for television.
With a career spanning education, production, digital products, and screenwriting, Sam now focuses on staffing and developing for television. She is currently a staff writer for Warner Brothers Animation on the new 11-minute series Bugs Bunny Builders for HBO Max. Sam recently wrapped her role as a staff writer on DreamWorks TV’s Madagascar: A Little Wild, available now on Hulu and Peacock. In addition to her current series work, Sam has developed series takes for Imagine Entertainment, Temple Hill Entertainment, and DreamWorks TV. Sam also works as a freelance consultant on products benefiting children and families.
