Description of piece:
Recognized as a child prodigy at an extremely young age, Nechita has been heralded by the art world as the 21st century Picasso.
This large-format signed and numbered limited edition color serigraph on canvas, Captain Nechita by famed Romanian-American artist Alexandra Nechita, is a masterful, modern cubist original artwork. Strongly evocative of Picasso, the work demonstrates Nechita's mastery of composition and unique lyrical style, at once both abstract and figurative.
Captain Nechita was painted by Nechita in 1995, at the age of ten. The limited edition serigraph on canvas, of which this is numbered 145 of 250, was created in 1996 from the original painting, which remains in the Artist’s family personal collection.
Captain Nechita is custom framed in a substantial, ornate antiqued golden frame, with two specially-created black linen inner mats bordering a hand-painted inner fillet which, with an extension of the image area, matches the serigraph. It is an extraordinary custom framing with fine attention to detail.
Framed size measures 65-3/8” in height x 60-1/4” width x 3-1/2” depth.
Alexandra Nechita has hand-signed the artwork in the lower right of the image area, prominently, in gold metallic paint, "Alexandra Nechita". She has also included the date of its creation, "96" with her signature. Beneath the signature and date is the edition number, also in gold metallic paint, 145/250.
The artwork is accompanied by its original Certificate of Authenticity, and the COA is signed by both the Publisher and Alexandra Nechita.
Artist bio:
Born in Romania in 1985, Romanian-American cubist painter Alexandra Nechita was a rare child prodigy, attracting the attention of art critics and media who heralded her as an artist who at an extremely young age had mastered drawing and color, and had created her own unique visual language.
Nechita began drawing at the age of two; at seven, she was painting with oils and acrylics. Alexandra Nechita's first exhibition was a solo show in Los Angeles when she was just eight years old. Nechita’s talent was instantly recognized, and as a child she was already painting at a level comparable to such greats as Picasso and Matisse; her perceived similarities to Pablo Picasso led to her being known as the "Petite Picasso". In 1995, at the age of ten, Nechita was taken to Paris to work at the Mourlot Studios. In the same year, she became the youngest artist to sign with International Art Publishers.
Nechita's artwork has been exhibited worldwide, and her collectors include Ellen DeGeneres, Alec Baldwin, Oprah Winfrey, Melissa Etheridge, Lee Iacocca, Calvin Klein, Whoopi Goldberg, Little Richard, and Paul Stanley of the rock group Kiss.
