About the chandelier: A convex mirror inside a concave mirror constitute the background of Inma Barrero’s light sculpture. Hundreds of pieces of individually handcrafted unglazed porcelain are wrapped around the convex mirror. These abstract pieces resemble at times flower buds, or leaves, fruits, wings… Each piece shows the fingerprints of the artist. The shadows of these pieces repeat endlessly within the space. The whole window with its reflections of people, cityscape and lights emphasizes the connection between us, our environment and the ever changing light. The antique convex mirror is from Belgium and was once used in a train station. The light sculpture is designed to also hang from a ceiling.
A native of southern Spain, Inma Barrero has been living in the United States for over two decades. She began working full time as a sculptor in 2005 after a long career in the senior creative divisions of leading branding and design firms. She works essentially with combinations of modeled clay, twisted metal, found objects, glass and wood. Her sculptural body of work is infused with a surrealist spirit and an exploration of the feminine. The sculptures exist in a personal metaphorical world neither fully figurative, nor abstract and wittily evoke the natural world. Her works are filled with a poetic sensibility where light and shadows interact with the pieces to become part of wherever they are displayed. Her work is part of private collections in the USA, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Inma Barrero lives and works in New York City.
