Carlos Hiller Black Tip Sharks Encounter
Measures 54" x 26"
Acrylic on Canvas
Carlos was inspired to paint this original acrylic on canvas during snorkeling trip at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cocos Island, Costa Rica. While snorkeling he was startled by two small and very curious black tip sharks. The encounter with these magnificent animals, and the beauty of the landscape created a strong inspiration that culminated in this painting. The painting intentionally maintains sedimentary specs in the water column to give the viewer a feeling of actual immersion.
When Carlos Hiller was 17 years old, he built a boat with a couple of friends and then sailed the Amazon. He ended up in the Pacific Ocean and leveraged his captivating painting style to document this trip. This was the beginning of Carlos' life long adventure using his paint brush to stand witness to what he saw both above and below the water line.
Carlos began his academic studies in marine biology, but the combined draw of the field and his art was to strong and his life took a stark turn. He participated in extreme adventures and traveled extensively throughout the Amazon Basin and the Darien Jungle, where he broke bread with remote native settlements and gold prospectors. His painting continued as he documented these adventures.
Carlos began refining his style and found that he was drawn to the creative lighting and ambiance of the underwater realm. He was attracted to the illusive marine animals and concentrated on honing his style.
Today, Carlos has created many government consignments and his work is well recognized throughout Latin America. His work is displayed in galleries throughout the Americas and Europe. Collectors of his work include discerning buyers from Holland, Germany, England, the United States, Canada, Oman, Mexico, New Zealand and around the world.
