The Gathering for Justice is a social justice organization founded by Harry Belafonte in 2005 and led by Executive Director Carmen Perez since 2010. The mission of The Gathering is to build a national movement to end child incarceration while removing the racial inequities in the criminal justice system that enliven mass incarceration. With our criminal justice task force Justice League NYC (and newly formed Justice League CA), The Gathering has been effective in addressing local, state and federal issues impacting communities of color and youth of color. In 2015 Carmen, along with Justice League's Tamika Mallory and Linda Sarsour, led March2Justice - a 250 mile march from NYC to DC to deliver a "Justice Package" to Congress - an effort for which Justice League NYC was awarded The Chairman's Award at the 2016 NAACP Image Awards. And that leadership is why Carmen, Tamika and Linda were brought on as the National Co-Chairs of The Women's March on Washington. The Gathering was proud to act as host organization for The Women's March in January, and continues to provide fiscal sponsorship for the newly-formed Women's March organization.
