Collect this etching by the acclaimed Spanish artist Francisco Goya from the famous Los Caprichos series.
Los caprichos (The Caprices) is a set of 80 prints in aquatint and etching created by the Spanish artist Francisco Goya in 1797-1798 and published as an album in 1799. The prints were an artistic experiment: a medium for Goya's condemnation of the universal follies and foolishness in the Spanish society in which he lived.
Like many prints in Los Caprichos, “Bellos consejos” is a critique of human folly, social hypocrisy, and moral corruption in late 18th-century Spain. The title is ironic. “Fine Advice” suggests wisdom or moral guidance, but Goya instead shows advice that is manipulative, corrupting, or deceptive. The scene is generally interpreted as a commentary on social manipulation, sexual politics, arranged relationships, exploitation of innocence, and the transmission of bad values from one generation to another.
