Collect this beautiful color woodcut by Salvador Dali from the famous Divine Comedy series titled "The Traitor of Montaperti (Inferno 32)." The Divine Comedy is one of the most famous and prestigious series created by Dali. It illustrates the 100 canti of the Divine Comedy written by the great Dante Alighieri between the years 1308 and 1321. It took talented engravers almost four years to carve the 3,500 separate blocks needed to complete the 100 prints included in the series.
In this woodcut, Dante pulls Bocca degli Abati's head from the ground. Bocca degli Abati was a Ghibelline who betrayed the Florentine Guelphs at the Battle of Montaperti in 1260. The Battle of Montaperti was a major conflict between the cities of Siena and Florence. The Ghibellines, led by Siena, supported the Holy Roman Emperor. The Guelphs, led by Florence, supported the pope. Bocca degli Abati's treachery contributed to the Guelphs' defeat.
This woodcut is a remarkable example of Dali's work and a valuable addition to any art collection. Its connection to The Divine Comedy and its limited availability make it a highly desirable piece for any fan and admirer of Dali's art.
