Artist Bio:
Tenzin Jigme is a contemporary artist born in Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet. His works are centered around the deep emotions related to and emerging from a close study of personal and collective memories and personal and collective histories. The work takes inspiration from his personal experiences. It closely merges individual and collective memory from the vantage point of people in exile, particularly memories of and lived experiences of adults who have gone through displacement as children due to political circumstances. Tenzin’s projects are grounded in his belief that art is a valuable source of knowledge and history, a powerful form of language transcending cultures, time, space, and borders. Through his art, Tenzin aims to connect with his audience profoundly and personally, encouraging them to think critically about the world around them. Tenzin received his training in painting (MFA) from the faculty of Art at BHU in Varanasi, India. At the Delhi College of Art, he completed his BFA with a specialization in printmaking.
Art Description:
This work originated from a spontaneous and impassioned desire to visit a place made inaccessible by political constraints. For the artist, it embodies a yearning to visit Tibet, reminiscent of the myriad Lungta flags that flutter on its high mountains. The images of the three horses symbolize the power of perseverance and control over one's fate. This work resonates with hope and the aspiration for influence and change in the future.
