You and a guest can enjoy the opportunity to meet software engineer and game developer John Nesky during a private Zoom meeting! Here's your chance to pick John's brain on game design, camera motion, tool development, creativity, and/or music!
A Forbes 30-Under-30 in Games honoree in 2014 who has spoken at conferences around the world, John Nesky is a software engineer and game developer best known for his work with thatgamecompany on the record-breaking, award-winning game Journey, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in March 2022. Recognized as 2012 Game of the Year by D.I.C.E., the Game Developers Choice Awards, Entertainment Weekly, GameSpot, and IGN, among others, Journey won over 100 game industry awards and maintains a 92 rating on Metacritic. John is also known in some corners of the internet as the solo developer of BeepBox, an online music composition tool that has been used in scoring independent films and teaching music theory.
John became the first game developer ever hired with the title "Feel Engineer" when he joined thatgamecompany. His role included designing the controls, physics, and animation of the player-avatar, as well as the controls, framing, and motion of the in-game virtual camera, ensuring that these elements interacted harmoniously with the rest of the game to create the intended experience for the player. John made a point of ensuring that the game would be accessible to players who suffer from simulation sickness when playing other video games with dynamic camera motion. John also contributed many features to thatgamecompany's latest release, Sky, including a character animation system, a volumetric terrain editor, and creature AI logic. John now works as a software engineer at Google when he's not making games and tools.
