Kate Sullivan is a director and producer as well as the founding Artistic Director of Los Angeles-based theater company OVER THE MOON PRODUCTIONS. On the TV side, Kate was the assistant director of Grease Live! on Fox alongside her mentor Thomas Kail (Hamilton) and recently produced Fosse/Verdon on FX which won 3 Emmys. She is currently developing a 1/2 hour dramedy pilot to direct based on the play Catholic All Girls School by Adriana Santos. MXN Entertainment is attached to produce. On the feature film side, Kate started off as Speilberg's Production Assistant at Dreamworks and was in charge of feeding his fish and cleaning his golf cart which she took very seriously.
From there, Kate went on to be the assistant to director Mark Waters (Mean Girls) on The Spiderwalk Chronicles and then assisted the producer Jessica Tuchinsky on 500 Days of Summer. She has worked for 20th century fox on movies such as Jennifer's Body and The Rocker, for Universal Films on movies such as Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect and now runs development for Thomas Kail's TV and Film company, Old 320 Sycamore. She just produced her first film with Old 320 Sycamore, World's Best, for Disney+ which will come out in the spring of 2023.
For Theatre, most recently, Kate conceived and directed the rock musical Nineteen utilizing music by Grammy-nominated band Tegan & Sara (American Conservatory Theater). Kate's other directing credits include the Los Angeles premiere of Spring Awakening (seven Ovation nominations including best musical and best direction), a production of RENT in an abandoned warehouse in downtown Los Angeles, a rock concert version of the musical LIZZIE by Tim Maner, Steven Cheslik-DeMeyer, and Alan Stevens Hewitt and SAD GIRL by Alexandra Addison (New York Stage and Film). Kate has recently developed work with Abby Rosebrock at Rogue Machine, Caroline V. McGraw at the Colorado New Play Festival, Chelsea Marcantel at the Geffen, Adriana Santos at Iama Theater Company, Sofya Levitsy-Weistz at Iama Theatre Company, C.A. Johnson at the Local Theater Company and Liza Powel O'Brian at the Echo Theater Company. Kate has assisted and learned from directors Michael Greif (Rent, Dear Evan Hansen) and Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening, American Idiot) and was the recipient of the 2014 Dasha Epstein Directing Fellowship Award at New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater at Vassar College. Kate has also volunteered her time to direct both the 24hr Musicals and 24hr Plays with TV writer Rachel Axler.
