During each leg of your adventure, you will happen upon clues, engage with strangers who somehow know your name, and solve perplexing mysteries that ultimately lead to your reward. Where will the crucial clues lurk? They could be virtually anywhere—tucked inside your napkin at an elegant restaurant, pinned to a pack mule’s harness, or perhaps even delivered into your hands by an adorable alpaca! In every case, on every expedition, guides will be in place to assist you in your quest to find the hidden treasure.

Your meticulously curated, highly customizable series of scavenger expeditions will include:

• 3-WEEK ALASKA/DENALI EXPEDITION (Scavenger Hunt Prize: 24K Gold Buffalo Coin) -  Rising to 20,310 feet, Denali is the tallest peak on the North American continent and home to a six million acre national park that constitutes its own sub-Arctic ecosystem. This extraordinary 21-day expedition will begin with five days/four nights in Anchorage, Alaska’s capital and largest city. In addition to a fun-filled itinerary of guided excursions—including a day cruise, a fly-in brown bear viewing adventure, and immersive native cultural experiences—you will enjoy the freedom to forge your own path each day with a complimentary rental car and will return each evening to a private home reserved just for you and your guests. After dropping off your rental car, you’ll embark on a breathtaking train tour of the Alaskan wilderness en route to Denali National Park. Depending on your preferences and room availability, accommodations will be provided at either the Denali Princess Wilderness Resort or the McKinley Chalet Resort, both of which offer fine and casual dining, entertainment, exceptional views, and free shuttles to the park. Your time as a guest in the delightful Denali Park Community will include 10 days and nights of jaw-dropping adventures, including an up-close-and-personal wilderness bus tour, a guided glacier hike, white water rafting on the Nenana River, a tundra tour by helicopter, an interpretive eco-walk, a guided natural history hike, a sled dog meet-and-greet, and a 21,000-foot aerial tour of Denali’s summit. From the park, you’ll board the train once more—this time to Fairbanks, the Golden Heart of Alaska and a haven for gold prospectors. For five days/five nights, you’ll enjoy a guided fishing excursion, a round-trip journey to the Arctic Circle, an authentic mushing adventure, a visit to Chena Hot Springs, and, if you arrive after August 21, a viewing of the Northern Lights. Lodging will be provided at the historic Alaska Heritage House. Following your stay in Fairbanks, you’ll receive a complimentary flight back to Anchorage for one last day and night before returning home. • 4-WEEK NEPAL/EVEREST EXPEDITION (Scavenger Hunt Prize: Antique Himalayan Singing Bowl) - Known in Nepal as Sagarmatha, Mount Everest stands at 29, 032 feet and is the highest point on Earth. Your unrivaled four-week expedition to Everest will begin with three days/three nights in Kathmandu, touring the city’s vibrant marketplaces and ancient temples by day and returning each night to the luxurious Basera Boutique Hotel. From Kathmandu, you’ll venture into the breathtaking countryside to enjoy a week-long immersive homestay experience featuring homemade Nepalese cuisine, authentic Himalayan tea rituals, traditional storytelling, and daily cultural tours. Following a tearful good-bye to your host family, you’ll embark on a four-day/three-night safari in Chitwan National Park—a 360 square mile ecoregion that boasts 68 species of mammals (including elephants, tigers, and bears!) and more than 500 species of birds. Next, you’ll head back to Kathmandu to catch a complimentary, heart-racing flight into Lukla, then on to historic Namche Bazar—a gathering place for hikers and sherpas, known for its mesmerizing views, unsurpassed hospitality, and, of course, its yak cheese. After a few days of acclimatization, your amazing adventure will culminate with an extraordinary, all-inclusive (and entirely optional) 12-day expert-guided hike to and back from Everest’s base camp. Following your descent from Everest, you will have the choice of remaining in Namche Bazar for an additional night or returning to Kathmandu for the night before catching your flight home. (Please note: Weather conditions on Mount Everest are most favorable during the spring and autumn months. • 3-WEEK TANZANIA/KILIMANJARO EXPEDITION (Scavenger Hunt Prize: Ethically Sourced Tanzanite Pendant) - An imposing, snow-capped, dormant volcano, the legendary Mount Kilimanjaro peaks at 19,340 feet, making it the highest summit on the African continent and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. The launch of this epic expedition will take place in Arusha, Tanzania, a bustling town that sits at the base of Mount Meru and serves as one of three gateways to the larger, more famous Kilimanjaro. Your time in Arusha will vary from five to seven days, depending on the route you select to climb Kilimanjaro, and lake view accommodations will be provided at the stunning Arusha Serena Hotel and Spa. Regardless of the duration of your visit to Arusha, activities will include (at the very least) guided tours of Metaruni Waterfalls, Kikuletwa Hot Springs, Ngorongoro Crater, and a Serengeti safari. Additional days, if a shorter climb route is chosen, will include immersive cultural tours, a local culinary lesson, and an introduction to life on a Tanzanian coffee plantation. From Arusha, you will embark on your thrilling ascent to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, choosing between three separate routes that vary according to steepness, duration, and availability of accommodations and services. The ascent on all routes is reputed to be moderately easy and requires no special training or equipment, though some climbers may require additional acclimatization time thereby necessitating a slower ascent. No matter which route you select, the final day of your upward climb will be timed to ensure you reach the top of the mountain at sunrise. In total, depending on your chosen path and weather, the hike to and back from Kilimanjaro’s summit will last anywhere from eight days to two weeks. Depending on the number of days remaining after you complete your descent from the mountain, you may choose to stay near Kilimanjaro National Park in Marangu or Moshi or return to Arusha for one more night before your flight home. (Please note: Weather conditions on Mount Kilimanjaro are most favorable January-early March and late June-October. The winning bidder is welcome to substitute the summit climb for a less adventurous Tanzania/Kilimanjaro experience.)
• 3-WEEK NEW ZEALAND/AORAKI EXPEDITION (Scavenger Hunt Prize: Handmade Maori Jade Sculpture) - Often referred to as Mount Cook, Aoraki is a 12.218-foot peak on the South Island of New Zealand. Nestled among the country’s iconic Southern Alps, this mesmerizing snow-capped mountain offers miles of forested trails leading to extraordinary glacial views. Your amazing Aoraki expedition will commence in Christchurch, where you will collect a complimentary rental car after landing at the airport and check in to your well-appointed suite at the exquisite Hotel Montreal. For the next four days and nights, you will experience traditional Maori culture and cuisine at He Tāngata, learn about the history of Christchurch on guided tours, and visit the city’s renowned botanical gardens and wildlife reserves. (And don’t worry, we’ll leave plenty of spare time on the agenda for shopping and self-guided excursions to the area’s stunning beaches!) After departing Christchurch, you’ll motor down to Tekapo—home to picturesque lakes, glorious hot springs, and the largest Dark Sky Preserve in the Southern Hemisphere. While in Tekapo, your home away from home will be a lovely lakeside suite at Peppers Bluewater Resort. Next on the agenda will be breathtaking Mount Cook Village, where you’ll spend a full week basking in the untamed beauty of New Zealand’s awe-inspiring Alps. By day, you’ll enjoy glacial hikes, guided tours, a spectacular aerial circumnavigation of the summit, and a thrilling skydiving adventure. By night, the extraordinary mountain views will continue from the comfort of your spacious suite at Aoraki Mount Cook Alpine Lodge. For the next five days and nights of your fabulous expedition, the magical city of Queenstown will serve as your base camp as you embark on a day cruise through magnificent Milford Sound and Fjordland National Park, experience an Antarctic ice bar (with two complementary cocktails!), view the city and beyond from the Skyline Gondola, take an extreme jet boat ride across raging rivers, treat your palate to an unforgettable wine tasting and food pairing experience, and tour Lord of the Rings filming locations from Queenstown to Glenorchy. Finally, as your New Zealand adventure draws to a close, you will have the option of dropping off your rental car in Queenstown and taking a complimentary flight back to Christchurch or enjoying a six-hour scenic return drive to Christchurch and returning your rental car at the airport prior to leaving the country. • 3-WEEK PERU/MACHU PICCHU EXPEDITION (Scavenger Hunt Prize: Rare Peruvian Wine or Pisco Collection) - Although Machu Picchu is not the tallest peak in South America, it is arguably one of the most well-known, culturally significant sites in the continent. An archaeological paradise for history buffs and a must-see for any world traveler, mist-shrouded Machu Picchu rises to an impressive 10,111 feet, though the famous Inca ruins rest comfortably at 7,900 feet. For travelers who have already visited Machu Picchu and would like to discover a new summit, we will be happy to substitute an expedition to Argentina’s Cerro Aconcagua, which is the tallest peak in the Western Hemisphere. For those longing to visit Machu Picchu, your exciting adventure will begin with five days and nights in Lima, Peru, where you will bask in the luxury of panoramic ocean-view accommodations at the exceptional Iberostar Selection, located in the heart of the sought-after Miraflores district. In addition to fun-filled culture-rich tours, incomparable culinary experiences, and ocean-themed adventures, you will be treated to a concert or an opera (depending on scheduling and ticket availability) at the beautiful Gran Teatro Nacional del Perú. After you’ve taken in the sights and sounds of Lima, we will fly you to Cusco—your gateway to Machu Picchu and a delightful destination in its own right. During your two weeks in Cusco, you will be immersed in the flavors, sights, and sounds of authentic Andes culture through guided tours and off-the-beaten-path experiences with welcoming locals who love sharing their heritage. However, the true highlight of your expedition will come in the form of two incomparable pilgrimages. First, over the course of four days and three nights, you’ll hike the famed Inca Trail from Cusco to Machu Picchu. This once-in-a-lifetime journey will last four days and three nights, with meals and camping gear included. Next, after resting for a day or two, you’ll enjoy a far rare trek to Humantay Lake, Salkantay Mountain, and, finally, the mystical Cloud Forest, where you will spend the night in an incredible stargazing igloo. Following one last night in Cusco, we’ll fly you back to Lima for an additional day before your journey home. (Please note: Although Machu Picchu is open year-round, the best timing for favorable weather and fewer crowds is generally May or September.)
• 3-WEEK SWITZERLAND/ITALY/MATTERHORN EXPEDITION (Scavenger Hunt Prize: Authentic Swiss Cuckoo Clock) - As with Machu Picchu, the Matterhorn is not the tallest mountain on the continent, but its fame and intrigue cannot be denied. At 14,692 feet, the towering Alp straddles the border between Switzerland and Italy. Its sharp pyramid-like shape formed of rock and ice makes the mountain scalable for only the fittest and seasoned climbers . . . but that doesn’t deter two million people per year from visiting this extraordinary destination. For travelers who have already visited the Matterhorn and would like to discover a new summit, we will be happy to substitute an expedition to Mont Blanc, which is the tallest peak in the European Alps. (Technically, Mount Elbrus is considered the tallest mountain in Europe, but its location prevents us from offering it as an option.) Those wishing to venture to the Matterhorn will be among the first to experience the long-awaited Matterhorn Alpine Crossing—an extraordinary cable car journey that spans the majestic Alps from Cervinia, Italy to Zermatt, Switzerland (or vice versa), offering incomparable views of the mountain and its awe-inspiring surroundings. Thanks to the new crossing, the winner of this auction will have the previously-unimagined opportunity to seamlessly split their time between Cervinia and Zermatt, drinking in the culture (and the wines) of both countries . . . not to mention the unrivaled skiing and hiking that only an Alpine expedition can offer. During your week in Zermatt, the exceptional Hotel Basecamp—which is literally nestled in the mountains—will serve as a warm sanctuary at night while providing daytime access to the snow-covered slopes via a mere two-minute walk to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and an eleven-minute walk to Zermatt-Furi Gondola. In Cervinia, you’ll be lodged for a week at the charming ski-in/ski-out Hotel Petit Palais, with just a two-minute walk to the Breuil-Cervinia Gondola. Travelers may embark on this wonderful Alpine expedition from either Milan or Geneva. Whichever point of entry you select, you will enjoy six nights’ lodging in your chosen city. (Please note: The Matterhorn may be visited any time of year, though activities in the neighboring villages and selected points of entry will vary according to the season.)

Last but certainly not least, as a special reward for finding all six of the hidden treasures, the fortunate foursome will be invited to embark on one final scavenger hunt—this time aboard a cruise ship bound for Antarctica! This final 12-day expedition will place you among a very special and rare group of travelers who have explored the seven continents.

To spare the winning bidder and his/her guest's unnecessary inconvenience and expense, prizes won throughout the six-continent scavenger hunt will be shipped to an address or address specified by the winning bidder. Rather than finding the actual prize, the lucky scavenger hunt winner will discover an image of the item, which he/she can later present to Global Justice Journal for fulfillment.
