During a 1-hour live stream at 1pm Pacific on September 7, world renowned architect Frank Gehry and four-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist Esperanza Spalding spent an hour creating together – Frank sketching and Esperanza composing music – in a partnership that brought together these two minds from different spheres of art.
As both artists use spontaneous creation as part of their process, this historic afternoon celebrated the beauty of creativity that arises in the moment, without edit or revision.
The two of them created together side-by-side at Frank's home, where the event was live streamed on Facebook via Architectural Digest, as well as by Esperanza herself, allowing the world to witness the creative impulses of these two visionary artists.
Bid now to take home 23 created sketches by Frank Gehry and a recording of the exclusive one-of-a-kind song created by Esperanza Spalding. The drawings and exclusive music are being auctioned off together as a bundle, never to be heard or seen again by the public.
Frank Gehry's architectural career has spanned over six decades; he has designed the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, CA, and countless more iconic buildings. His work has earned him several of the most significant awards in his field, including the Pritzker Prize.
Four-time Grammy Award-winner Esperanza Spalding has, in the past decade of her illustrious career (which also involves having performed at the Oscars, the Grammy Awards, the Nobel Prize ceremony, and several times at the White House), continually and brilliantly married genres, pushed boundaries, and created groundbreaking work. As a composer, bassist and vocalist, Esperanza is a magnetic live performer, who has recorded a catalog of seven collaborative and six solo albums.
Proceeds will go towards Bienestar, an Oregon-based non-profit that provides affordable housing to thousands of low-income Oregonians.
