Artist bio:
Pompeo Posar was a Playboy magazine staff photographer who photographed many centerfold features and accompanying pictures of women featured as “Playmate of the Month.” Notably, he was responsible for the December 1968 centerfold of Cynthia Myers and the November 1975 centerfold of Janet Lupo. This image is part of the Salvatore Dali series of prints. It is also part of the original Playboy Legacy Collection of 48 centerfold images since the magazines 1953 launch. Each of the 48 images was hand selected by Playboy Magazine founder Hugh Hefner and International Images CEO Norman Solomon for its iconic place in history and was produced by International Images in 2007. Alongside Playboy photographer Pompeo Posar, the then 69-year-old Salvador Dali lead a surreal photoshoot for a 1973 edition of the magazine. Dali worked closely with Posar to create sketches which would include plans for collage work, Renaissance motifs, and props such as the oversized egg and large fake snake which can be seen in the final shots above. Each photo was taken on location at the seaside town of Cadaqués in Spain, where locals would come to see the master at work, while taking in the view of the clear water and rolling hillsides.
