Collect this rare piece of history!
Richard Nixon was known for the rarity of hand-signed documents. During his presidency, Nixon's staff commonly used an autopen or rubber stamp for signing letters and documents. This vintage, highly collectible typed letter from former President Nixon is hand-signed in Nixon's unmistakable handwriting, on his personal stationery from his 26 Federal Plaza, New York City federal office. Nixon worked from his Manhattan office for 8 years, from 1980-1988, before moving to an office suite within walking distance from his Saddle River, NJ estate.
In this letter, dated September 11, 1987, Richard Nixon writes to a Mr. Edward A. Novak III, Editor at MacMillan Publishing Company, personally addressing the letter by hand, in the same ink with which the letter is signed. In it, Mr. Nixon shares his thoughts about a book which MacMillan would be publishing in November, 1987: The Dark Summer— An Intimate History of the Events that Led to World War II, by author Gene Smith.
The letter reads:
"Dear Mr. Novak,
Any book by the author of When the Cheering Stoppped and Lee and Grant is always on my priority reading list.
Gene Smith has a unique ability to make dry facts read like exciting fiction. The Dark Summer meets that test.
Sincerely,
Richard Nixon"
Richard Nixon has hand-signed the letter with a fountain pen, in parchment-colored ink. Hearkening back to the days of the typewriter, and before auto-correction, the letter contains a rare, small typo in the word stopped!
This piece of American presidential history comes framed in a stately black frame, elegantly triple-matted with a custom triple mat in crisp white, parchment and black, perfectly matched to the ink with which Mr. Nixon has signed. Framed size measures 15.25" in height x 12.25" width.
Richard Nixon's signature has been examined and authenticated by James Spence Authentication (JSA), and the letter is accompanied by a full Letter of Authenticity from JSA, which incorporates a unique alpha-numeric authenticating certification label assigned to this item and affixed to the COA.
