Enjoy the opportunity to study at New York School of the Arts with esteemed artist Maurizio Pellegrin!
You will experience 4 multi-day in-person sessions, spanning 12-16 days of classes in total, of painting.
This workshop introduces concepts and techniques in painting, immersing students in various projects and specific activities related to any kind of approach (abstraction or figuration) with attention to the basics of paint, materials, techniques, issues of color, and light. Discussions on historical and contemporary painting, concept development, and philosophical approaches, will guide participants to understand and develop their work. This workshop is perfect for beginners or advanced students of painting. Personal expression is encouraged through group instruction and one-on-one engagement in the class. Maurizio will help students to structure form and shape providing a vision of the painting adaptable to all future projects, and the use of a methodology.
Pellegrin was born in Venice, Italy. An artist of international reputation, he is also a revered arts educator who holds a Master’s Degree in Art History, Ca’ Foscari University in Venice. He studied sculpture and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, where he also holds the equivalent of the American MFA in Studio Art. Pellegrin directed the Venice Program Master of Art at New York University and taught Phenomenology of the Arts and Advanced Studio at Teachers College, Columbia University. In addition, he has taught Modern Design and Architecture at Rhode Island School of Design, he was Director of the School and Creative Director at the National Academy Museum and School, where he later became the Dean of the school. Pellegrin was also Chief Executive of Cultural Affairs at two ancient Venetian institutions, I.R.E. and Fondazione Venezia, Venice. As an artist, he has had more than 150 solo and 400 group exhibitions in major museums and galleries, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art; Corcoran Gallery of Art, (Washington D.C); Museum of Contemporary Art, (Cleveland, Ohio); Fort Wayne Museum of Art, (Indiana); Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, (Arizona); Peggy Guggenheim Collection, (Venice, Italy); and the Ca’ Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art, (Venice, Italy). He is the Executive Director of the New York School of the Arts.
