Nicole Maines will autograph and personalize a collection of Suicide Squad: Dream Team comics!
Nicole Maines is an immensely talented and versatile actress making her mark in film and television, and as a socially engaged activist, she is paving the way for LGBTQ+ youth on and off screen. Maines has been nominated for a GLAAD Media Award and was a VARIETY “Power of Young Hollywood” and VARIETY “Power of Pride” honoree. For her activism, Maines was a 2020 Human Rights Campaign “Upstander Award” honoree and has become a hero for the LGBTQ+ community and an indisputable voice for the transgender community.
In 2014, Maines fought and won the Supreme Court case, Doe v. Clenchy, that moved the needle for transgender children by allowing them to use the school bathroom designated for the gender with which they identify. Nicole’s breakout role on The CW's incredibly popular adaptation of the DC Comic Supergirl as 'Nia Nal' aka 'Dreamer,' left an extraordinary mark on the world making her TV's first transgender superhero.
Upcoming, Maines is set to release her highly-anticipated memoir, IT GETS BETTER…EXCEPT WHEN IT GETS WORSE: And Other Unsolicited Truths I Wish Someone Had Told Me, which will be published by The Dial Press, an imprint of Penguin Random House, on October 15, 2024. Maines was most recently seen in the Showtime hit series, Yellowjackets, opposite Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, and Juliette Lewis. She portrayed ‘Lisa,’ an associate of ‘Lottie’s’ who is trying to recover from past trauma.
Last year, Maines reprised her breakout role as “Nia Nal” aka “Dreamer” during The CW’s The Flash’s ninth season. In 2018, Maines made history through her portrayal of the same character on The CW’s beloved series Supergirl, making her TV's first-ever transgender superhero. On the film side, Maines starred in Darby and the Dead, the 20th Century Studios film directed by Silas Howard, which premiered exclusively on Hulu in December 2022. Maines portrayed “Piper” in the film, which follows a teenager who is granted the ability to see ghosts after suffering a near death experience in her childhood.
Her additional writing credits include her Dreamer's comic book debut in DC’s 2021 Pride anthology, as well as numerous comics for DC including Superman: Son of Kal El #13 with Tom Taylor, Lazarus Planet Assault on Krypton #1, and Harley Quinn: Everybody Hates Sidequests.
One to always be willing and open in sharing with the world her journey of being transgender, Nicole with the help of Amy Ellis Nutt released her biography, Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family. The book quickly became a New York Times bestseller, New York Times notable book, was named one of the ten best books of the year by People and one of the best books of the year by Men's Journal. She is an inspiration on-and-off screen paving the way for the next generation of LGBTQ+ youth.
