Andrea Nelson Meigs, a Los Angeles native, is a Partner at leading global entertainment company, United Talent Agency (UTA). For the past 20 years, she has built a client list that consists of highly accomplished actors, writers, musicians, producers and directors, closing deals for them in the areas of television, film, theater, branding and books.
Some of those clients have included Idris Elba, Jamie Foxx, Halle Berry and Christina Applegate. Currently, she represents a wide array of artists such as Aunjanue Ellis (Oscar and Emmy nominated actress known for King Richard, Lovecraft Country, When They See Us), Ellen Burstyn (Tony, Emmy, Oscar, and Golden Globe winning actress known for Exorcist, Requeim For A Dream, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore) to Quvenzhané Wallis (youngest actress to be nominated for an Oscar in the history of the Academy for Beasts Of The Southern Wild and nominated for a Golden Globe for Annie) to Beyonce Knowles Carter (Golden Globe nominated actress for Dreamgirls who just become the most Grammy-winning female artist in history).
Nelson Meigs is a member of the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science, , is on the Board of Directors for Women in Film (WIF), a Board of Trustee for Marlborough School, and on the Industry Advisory Board for EICOP / HBCU IN L.A. Other professional memberships include: the Council of Motion Picture and Television Fund and the Ebell Theater of Los Angeles.
On the cover of both ‘Black Enterprise’ and ‘Essence’ Magazine, Nelson Meigs has also been profiled in Billboard Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, Daughters of Men, Duke Magazine, Tufts Magazine, UCLA Medical Website and Directors Magazine. In 2009, Andrea received the “P.T. Barnum Award for Excellence in Entertainment” from Tufts University and, in 2013, she became a History Maker, (where her interview is archived as permanent collection in the Library of Congress). In 2020, she was honored in the Variety’s Women’s Impact Report.
Nelson Meigs began her career as an intern for Congresswoman Maxine Waters and the Los Angeles’ District Attorney’s Office. She decided to leave the practice of law and started her career all over again, in the mailroom at Creative Artists Agency. Within a short while, she climbed the ranks to become a Motion Picture Talent Agent (only the second African-American in the history of the agency) and after 11 years at CAA and another 14 years as a Senior Talent / Literary Agent at ICM Partners, Nelson Meigs has become a dominant force and renown trailblazer in the business – breaking ground for other young women and people of color.
Nelson Meigs is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, (an international community service organization), volunteered with Big Brother Big Sister, attends West Angeles Church and is a top fundraiser for personal charity, Cure SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy).
While Nelson Meigs studied in Madrid, at the Universidad de Autónoma (fluent in Spanish) and created an Exchange Program with Spelman College, she received her BA from Tufts University, her JD from Duke University School of Law and is a member of the California State Bar. She is married to John V. Meigs, Jr., (an equity partner at entertainment law firm, Hansen Jacobson, Teller, et al) and proud mother of four beautiful daughters – (Avery Nelson Meigs, the late Alexandra Nina Meigs, Izzy Alexa Meigs and Calla Alexis Meigs).
