After their collaborative global success on Sony’s $1.76 billion grossing Jumanji movies, director Jake Kasdan is getting back in business with Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions for a holiday movie with Amazon Studios, previously titled Red One. The movie is billed as a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy, imagining a whole new universe within the holiday genre. The pic aims to shoot in 2022 with a 2023 holiday release. asdan will also produce the movie on behalf of his production company, The Detective Agency, alongside Melvin Mar and co-producer Sky Salem Robinson.
Kasdan’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle made over $962M WW while the sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level grossed over $800M WW. Jake has also worked extensively in television. Jake worked with Judd Apatow, as a consulting producer and director on Freaks and Geeks and as a director on Undeclared. His most recent TV project is the newly launched Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. for Disney+.
Jake is the son of director, screenwriter, and producer, Lawrence Kasdan. Lawrence is the co-writer of the Star Wars films The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Return of the Jedi (1983), The Force Awakens (2015), and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). He co-wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and The Bodyguard (1992), and is the writer-director of Body Heat (1981), The Big Chill (1983), Silverado (1985), The Accidental Tourist (1988), and Dreamcatcher (2004).
Lawrence has been nominated for four Academy Awards: as a producer for Best Picture nominee The Accidental Tourist, for which he was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, and for Best Original Screenplay for both The Big Chill and Grand Canyon (1991).
