Join Peter Graham, Chairman of Seventh Generation, for a discussion over lunch about the leading brand of non-toxic, environmentally sensitive household and personal care products sold in the United States.
Learn what it takes to compete against some of the largest companies in the United States including Procter & Gamble and Kimberly Clark. Discuss what it means to be a leader in the Corporate Social Responsibility world, a “B Corporation,” and a good corporate citizen committed to radical transparency even sharing information with competitors to make the world a better place.
The name of the company is derived from the Confederation of the Iroquois Nation which says “that in our every deliberation we must be mindful of our impact on the next seven generations.”
Peter spent more than 25 years on Wall Street leading a boutique investment banking firm consulting to corporations, taking companies public, developing strategies for growth. He joined the board of directors of Seventh Generation in 1994 and in 1999 he led a group taking SVG private, which culminated in him becoming Chairman. He has been Chairman for the past 15 years. During this period he has had to navigate changes in operating leadership, the crash and severe recession of 2008, and pressure to sell or go public. He has also raised significant capital to fuel the company’s growth. He has purposefully attracted a group of like minded shareholders who share the company’s mission and values. No business can rest on its laurels and remain static.
As Seventh Generation begins its second 25 years it continues to chart its course in a changing, but more socially conscious world.
As a bonus if your interest is travel or sailing, Peter will be glad to share stories of his six + year odyssey around the world with his wife and infant child aboard his 60’ sailboat. He now triangulates between homes in Montreal and Eastern Long Island and the business in Vermont and Raleigh, North Carolina.
