Your party of four will experience a unique lunch with the current Executive Director of the NHL Player's Association and the former Mayor of Boston Martin Walsh!
Martin Joseph Walsh (born April 10, 1967) is an American politician and trade union official affiliated with the Democratic Party. He served as the mayor of Boston from 2014 to 2021 and as the 29th United States Secretary of Labor from 2021 to 2023. Walsh resigned from his role as Secretary of Labor in March 2023 to become the executive director of the National Hockey League Players' Association. Before his tenure as mayor, he was a Massachusetts House Representative from 1997 to 2014 and led the Boston Building Trades Council from 2011 to 2013.
As mayor, Walsh facilitated a building boom and implemented housing policies inspired by federal fair housing guidelines. He extended the school day by 40 minutes in Boston Public Schools and held a leadership role in the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. Despite efforts, Boston's homelessness issue at Mass and Cass remained unresolved during his time in office. Walsh initially supported, but later withdrew from, Boston’s bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics. He advocated for Boston's sanctuary city status and passed an ordinance for paid parental leave for city employees. Walsh also regulated short-term rentals and facilitated General Electric's headquarters move to Boston. His mayoral tenure ended as he managed Boston’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Secretary of Labor, Walsh was notable as the first former union leader in 45 years and the first openly recovering alcoholic in a twelve-step program to serve in a Cabinet position. In February 2024, President Biden nominated Walsh to be a governor of the United States Postal Service.
