Enjoy lunch with Sophia Ali in Los Angeles or virtually!
Beautiful, hard-working, and passionate, Sophia Ali has been committed to her acting career since she was just a child. Pakistani-American, Sophia was born in San Diego and moved to Dubai with her family when she was a baby and lived there for 5 years. Sophia grew up dancing and always had a love of the performing arts. She began booking roles in film, television, and national commercials at 8 years old after the family relocated to Dallas. She continued to take classes and focus on her craft and at 14, she booked a job with Disney Channel as the host of an interstitial show hosting show interviewing Disney stars and gamers and she hasn’t looked back since.
Sophia is best known for her role as Fatin in the Amazon hit series The Wilds, which followed a group of teenage girls who unwittingly become the subjects of an elaborate social experiment after being sent to a remote island. In 2021, Sophia starred in India Sweet and Spices which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film follows Sophia’s character ‘Alia’ who returns home for the summer to discover the secrets and lies in her parents' past that make her question everything she thought she knew about her family.
In 2022, Sophia starred as the female lead in the Sony Pictures film Uncharted, opposite Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. Uncharted is a prequel to the popular video games of the same name, starring Holland as a younger Drake, showing us details of how he came to meet and befriend Sully (Wahlberg). Currently, Sophia has a new film coming out next year called Above the Line. Sophia’s past roles include her groundbreaking turn as ‘Dr. Dahlia Qadri,’ a Muslim intern on Grey’s Anatomy which was a significant part of the representation discussion in Hollywood.
As one of the few characters in television to wear a hijab, Sophia enjoyed shedding light on something many people see as a negative and loves that her character is proud of her religion and heritage and chooses to wear it as it is a symbol of empowerment. She does take it off to save someone’s life and expresses later that her religion is about service and compassion. It is implied that the compassion is more important than the sacred symbol.
In addition to her popular role on Grey’s Anatomy she had a recurring role in Freeform’s Famous in Love, and feature film supporting roles in Universal Pictures’ Truth or Dare, and Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some. When Sophia isn’t on set, she enjoys writing, spending time with friends, family and her dog, Jack. She loves all dogs but Jack has a special place in her heart as well as on her arm, honored in a beautiful tattoo.
