About Rena Ronson: Rena Ronson is head of the UTA Independent Film Group at leading talent and literary agency UTA. One of the industry’s pre-eminent packaging and finance executives in independent film, Ronson is focused on developing global film finance, distribution and marketing strategies for independent and co-financed studio features.
Ronson also oversees an indie group known for packaging and/or representing many of the highest-profile and critically-praised independently-financed films from a diverse range of American and international filmmakers including Wes Anderson, James Ponsoldt, Andrew Adamson, David Michôd, Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris, Noah Baumbach, Mike Mills, Lynn Shelton, Asghar Farhadi and Sean Durkin. Additionally, Ronson has helped guide numerous international filmmakers make their English language feature debut including Joachim Trier’s Louder than Bombs, Afonso Poyart’s Solace and Haifaa Al-Mansour.’s Wadjda, specifically securing the first ever co-production between Germany and Saudi Arabia for Al-Mansour’s production.
Ronson was also recently involved in the intricate co-production financing of several films including the Elton John biopic, Rocketman. In addition to structuring the financing for the film, Ronson brokered the domestic rights sale to FilmDistrict on behalf of UTA, marking one of the biggest deals in the independent space in recent years. She also put together the financing for Afonso Poyart’s Solace starring Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell, Anthony Mandler's Tokyo Vice starring Daniel Radcliffe, and Don Cheadle's Miles Ahead, starring Ewan McGregor, Cheadle and Zoe Saldana.
