Steven is the President of Kite Flyer Productions, Inc. Kite Flyer Productions is a company engaged in the creation of multi-media content that celebrates people and their diverse stories. Kite Flyer Productions currently has several film and documentary projects in development. Williams served as the Producer on the 4 part HBO documentary “The Defiant Ones”. “The Defiant Ones”, directed by Allen Hughes, is an epic story of the lives of Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine and their influence on music, culture and the business world. The film was awarded Best Documentary in a Limited Series by the International Documentary Association at their 2017 IDA Awards ceremony. Most recently, the film won a Grammy Award for Best Music Film at the 2018 Grammy Awards show in January.
Prior to Williams’ transition into producing, Williams had a multifaceted career at NBCUniversal. Williams joined NBCUniversal in 2002 as Supervising Sound Editor. Williams served as sound supervision and sound designer on such high profile projects as The Book of Eli, Dead Presidents, Broken City, and Menace II Society. He served as Sound Supervisor on many television shows and television pilots. In 2006, Williams transitioned to a management role as Director of Sound Services at NBCUniversal. In 2010 Williams was promoted to Vice President, Sound Services overseeing all sound services for feature films, episodic tv and home video distribution at the studio. In 2012 Williams was given the role as Vice President of Post Production Services for NBCUniversal StudioPost. In this position Williams oversaw the departments of TV Post & Sound, Feature Sound, Feature Marketing, Projection, and Editorial Facilities. Williams was responsible for a department with 10 managers and over 200 employees with more than $35 million in revenue. Williams is an Emmy Award winner and Grammy Award winner. He is a voting member of both The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He is a member of International Documentary Association, Film Independent and the Black Association of Documentary Filmmakers and the National Association of Recording Arts & Sciences. Williams has been engaged as a guest lecturer at many professional & academic events. Williams attended the University of California, Berkeley. He lives in Pasadena, CA with his wife, Clara. They have two children and two grandchildren.
