Each school year, the musicians comprising The Santa Monica High School Chamber Orchestra are cherry picked from the top string players in the Santa Monica High School Symphony Orchestra, named America’s Top High School Orchestra by the American String Teachers Association in 2005. This Orchestral Program has been called “one of the finest school music programs I have ever witnessed,” by Guido Lamell, violinist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. These Chamber students will to go on to institutions such as Juilliard, Northwestern, New England Conservatory, Oberlin and USC's Thornton School of Music. In addition to routinely winning top honors at the nation’s High School Chamber Orchestra competitions, this marvelous ensemble is also available for private functions. From lavish weddings to intimate dinner parties, the Samohi Chamber Orchestra performs as String Quartets, Quintets, Octets or the full ensemble of 20 plus students, if all are available. This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your guests to enjoy beautiful music played by accomplished young musicians in the setting of your choice. Their repertoire includes all the classics, as well as pop, rock and jazz selections from many eras and patrons may also request custom original arrangements of their favorite musical selections.
The Samohi Chamber Orchestra has accompanied the likes of internationally renowned cellists Lynn Harrell, Ralph Kirshbaum, Ben Hong and Antonio Lysy, as well as popular rock artists David Crosby, Jackson Browne and Billy Idol, among others. Glenn Frey, co-lead vocalist, guitarist and founder of The Eagles, recently heard the Samohi Chamber Orchestra at a dinner party and subsequently has hired them to perform on his latest album and video.
