This is not a conventional wine tour. The estates visited on this journey are among the most significant and closely held in Bordeaux, offering rare access to properties that are not available through standard tourism channels and experienced quietly, respectfully and with genuine depth.
What Is Included:
The Journey at a Glance: A four night immersion into the heart of Bordeaux, combining discreet luxury accommodation with private visits to some of the regions most revered estates across Margaux, Graves, Pauillac and Saint-Émilion.
Itinerary:
Day One Arrival in Bordeaux: Arrive into Bordeaux Airport where you will be met for a private chauffeur transfer to your hotel. Set within the vineyards of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, your hotel is surrounded by tranquil gardens, lakes and working vines. Designed using recycled local materials, the architecture blends seamlessly into the landscape, creating an immediate sense of calm and retreat.
The afternoon is at leisure, allowing time to settle in, explore the estate or enjoy the spa, which offers grape based therapies inspired by the surrounding vineyards. In the evening, dine at the estates Michelin starred restaurant, where seasonal ingredients from the châteaus own organic gardens are transformed into refined dishes that reflect the character of the region.
Day Two Margaux and Graves: This morning, depart for a private visit to one of Bordeauxs most historic and influential estates. Founded in the sixteenth century, Château Margaux represents over five centuries of continuous evolution, innovation and stewardship. A private visit and tasting offers insight into both the history of the estate and the philosophy that continues to guide it today.
Following the visit, enjoy lunch at a neighbouring estate restaurant overlooking the Margaux vineyards, where wine, gastronomy and conviviality come together in an elegant rural setting.
In the afternoon, continue to Château La Mission Haut-Brion, an estate widely regarded as one of Bordeauxs great outliers and often described as the unofficial sixth Premier Grand Cru Classé. A private tasting highlights the depth and precision that define its wines.
Return to Bordeaux in the early evening for dinner in one of the citys most refined dining rooms, housed within an eighteenth century setting overlooking the Place de la Bourse.
Day Three Pauillac and the Médoc: After breakfast, travel north into the Médoc for a private visit to Château Mouton Rothschild. Remaining within the same family since the nineteenth century, the estate holds a unique place in Bordeaux history as the only château to be elevated from Second Growth to First Growth status.
The visit explores both the wines and the estates celebrated artistic legacy. Lunch is enjoyed nearby at an estate restaurant inspired by the produce and traditions of southwest France.
In the evening, return towards Bordeaux for dinner at an iconic Michelin starred restaurant overlooking the vineyards, reflecting the balance between tradition and innovation that defines Bordeaux at its best.
Day Four Saint-Émilion and the Right Bank: Today is dedicated to the historic villages and limestone slopes of Saint-Émilion. Begin with a private visit to Château Cheval Blanc, one of only a handful of estates classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé A. A private tasting offers insight into why its wines remain among the most sought after in the world.
Lunch follows at a Michelin starred restaurant in Saint-Émilion, pairing refined regional cuisine with the great wines of the appellation.
In the afternoon, visit Château Angélus, a family owned Premier Grand Cru estate known for its high proportion of Cabernet Franc and pursuit of excellence. Continue to Château Montlabert, a quieter, family property where heritage, architecture and sustainable practices coexist.
The day concludes with an aperitif and dinner at the château, offering a rare opportunity to dine within a working classified estate.
Day Five Departure: The morning is at leisure, allowing time to enjoy the estate or relax before departure. In the evening, a private transfer returns you to Bordeaux Airport for your onward flight.
Access and Estate Visits: All estate visits on this journey are privately arranged and subject to final confirmation by the château owners. In the rare event that access to a specific estate becomes unavailable, a carefully selected alternative of equal standing and significance will be arranged. With appropriate notice and advance planning, access is typically secured without issue and substitutions are highly unlikely.
This itinerary has been designed for those who seek more than tastings and tours. The estates visited are family legacies where access is limited and granted with care. This is Bordeaux at its most authentic, most personal and most rewarding.
