Bobby Weir is one of the founding members of the legendary Grateful Dead. Since establishing the band in 1965, Weir has become one of rock’s finest and most distinctive rhythm guitarists. The band has received a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award and appeared on Forbes’ list of top-grossing entertainers. The Grateful Dead is still one of the highest-grossing concert attractions in the US and their final tally of 2,318 total concerts remains a world record. Weir has been a member of Dead & Company since its formation in 2015 (featuring Grateful Dead members Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann, along with John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, and Jeff Chimenti).
During their most recent 2021 tour, Dead & Company performed 31 shows and achieved $50.2M in gross ticket sales. This included sold-out shows at Citi Field, two nights at Wrigley Field, two nights at Red Rocks, and three nights at the Hollywood Bowl, and ranked No. 5 on Pollstar’s worldwide touring chart for the year. Weir is also a member of Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros formed in 2018 by Weir along with Don Was and Jay Lane. The band set out performing the expansive catalog of Grateful Dead, Bobby’s solo albums, and more and has toured extensively throughout the US. In 2020, Jeff Chimenti joined the Wolf Bros around the same time the band started featuring The Wolfpack, a string and brass quintet which bring an orchestral, symphonic element to the music of Grateful Dead and features Alex Kelly, Brian Switzer, Adam Theis, Mads Tolling and Sheldon Brown. The band is also now joined by Barry Sless on pedal steel. In October 2022, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring The Wolfpack will join the National Symphony Orchestra for a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration at the Kennedy Center. In 2022, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros released their first-ever vinyl collection of recorded material, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros: Live in Colorado, on Third Man Records. The record—produced by Weir, Was, and Lane—features a collection of songs recorded during the band’s live performances at Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, and the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail, Colorado in June 2021, their first live audience concerts in over a year due to the pandemic.
Weir’s Blue Mountain LP was released in 2016 on Columbia/Legacy/ROAR and marked his first album of solo material in more than 10 years and his first album of entirely original material in more than 30 years. The album received raves from critics including NPR who called the LP “stately, autumnal, metaphysical cowboy songs.” Weir has been honored with Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association and is also a Les Paul Spirit Award recipient. Weir has teamed up with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as a Goodwill Ambassador to raise awareness and mobilize support for the UN agency’s work to end poverty while fighting climate change. Weir has a partnership with D’Angelico Guitars for two signature models, the Bob Weir SS and Bob Weir Bedford. In 2017, the Bob Weir SS won the Editor’s Choice Award for Guitar, Amps, and Accessories at the Summer National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) show, while Musical Merchandise Review (MMR) nominated the Premier Bob Weir SS for Dealer’s Choice Award in the Electric Guitar category. Music and Sound Retailer deemed the Deluxe Bob Weir Bedford the Best Electric Guitar of 2019.
